Families Moving Forward is a
program, supported by
Beacon Interfaith HousingCollaborative, in which
local church congregations throughout Scott and Carver counties join together, on a rotational basis, to provide overnight shelter and meals
for families experiencing homelessness. The goal is to provide temporary safe “
housing” while each family seeks more permanent housing. During the daytime, the families receive
assistance at a program center currently located in Shepherd of the Lake
Lutheran Church.
Reasons for homelessness range from, unexpected life’s circumstances and events to
unemployment, lack of affordable housing, and natural disasters.
St. Michael partners with the Franciscan Retreat Center to provide 2 weeks of safe housing each year. One week occurs during the Summer months, and the other during the week of Christmas.
